During the holiday season, we reflect on what made the past year memorable for the students and families in Clare and Gladwin counties. Thirty-eight students participated in the regional HOSA competition at Saginaw Valley State University on Friday, December 9. Out of 42 teams competing, seven teams from health occupations program at Clare-Gladwin CTE were in the top eight, and three teams placed in the top three. Congratulations to all the students!

This year's CGRESD Holiday Card was designed using drawings submitted by students participating in the CGRESD SPARKS and IGNITE programs. It was a difficult task with so many excellent entries, but after careful consideration, five pieces of art were chosen for this year's card.
CELEBRATE NATIONAL SPECIAL EDUCATION DAY
Special Education Day is celebrated on December 2 to commemorate the signing of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act into law on this day in 1975 (IDEA). IDEA granted children with special needs access to free and quality public education.

Polls open for the general election in less than 24 hours! Together with local superintendents and area school board of education members, CGRESD hosted a candidate forum to hear from local state house and senate candidates regarding their educational priorities for our region. CGRESD Area School provides real experiences for the real world. Students worked to create fresh salsa with locally grown produce. CGRESD is the place for students to receive individual support for their educational needs.

CGRESD pools resources to provide top-notch specialized training for local teachers. Area K-8 STEM teachers recently engaged in training on the latest research and technology through a "STEM Teachers Network" training. CGRESD presenters, Kay Hauck and Duncan Gaven noted, "This REMC Region 5 activity connected local K-8 teachers with the opportunity to try out some of our hands-on STEM and Coding resources, while also collaborating with other teachers on projects, lessons, and classroom activities." #CGRESDtrainsteachers
This fall Clare-Gladwin area students in CTE Health Occupations will have the opportunity to receive the Patient Care Technician nationally recognized credential. Stacy Nold and Lynn Murton participated in extensive training opportunities this summer to become certified Patient Care Technician trainers. CTE Director, Eric Johnson states, "This new opportunity brings an increase in hands-on laboratory learning and prepares students for director employment upon graduation along with providing essential skills to students seeking advanced post-secondary education. The halls, labs, and classrooms were buzzing with activity during this year’s CTE Summer Camp. Seven programs provided fun and engaging activities for 70 middle and high students to learn more about CGRESD CTE Programs. “I am going to come back each year until I try every program,” stated a summer participant. CGRESD is excited to welcome back students for the 2022-2023 school year! Staff at the Area School greeted students this morning as they returned to learning. The Area School works to meet the individual needs of each person who attends by providing enriching and challenging learning experiences. #achievingexcellence
At CGRESD, we support a community of practice where staff are engaged in practices that deliver outcomes that matter for students. Dr. Stephanie Grant showcased key strategies to help all students feel safe and experience success in the classroom. As the Area School gets ready to begin on August 22, CGRESD staff is ready to help families jump in to learning!
Summer SPARKS and Ignite programs are our favorite part of the year. Collaborations with local districts ensure quality academic instruction for elementary and middle school sites and maximize high school credit recovery to promote graduation. Weekly fieldtrips, engaging enrichment projects, community collaborations, and multi-district events are packed into six short weeks that keep students and staff active and excited about learning.

CGRESD is recognized for the educational supports it provides to the Clare-Gladwin communities. Together, with other area volunteers, CGRESD employees work to keep our roadways clean through Adopt-a-highway. These relationships are key to CGRESD’s commitment to our community.
