Last week, our dedicated Area School staff participated in several engaging training sessions, one of which centered around an inspiring book we'll be reading together throughout the school year. The book is titled "The Energy Bus for Schools," co-authored by Jon Gordon and Dr. Jim Van Allan. Our team truly enjoyed collaborating and learning together during these sessions.
We're also thrilled to share that Area School staff have been awarded a Meemic Foundation grant! This grant includes an invitation to the Annual Cheers for Educators virtual event, featuring author Jon Gordon himself. This opportunity is especially exciting as we'll be working with and learning from his book all year long.
We’re looking forward to a year filled with energy, collaboration, and growth!

As an Occupational Therapist, Chantelle McLean's role is to ensure students have the necessary assistive technology to achieve success and independence in the classroom. One approach she is focusing on this year is providing an adaptive writing paper. Chantelle's goal is to ensure that her students who use this resource feel similar to their peers. They will have notebooks that look similar to their classmates, but inside, they'll have the special paper that supports them in their writing. In doing so, Chantelle is committed to fostering inclusivity and confidence in every student. #CGRESD #OurStory

During fire safety month, students and staff from the Area School MOCI 17-22-year-old Transition Classroom enjoyed a trip to the Harrison Fire Station. The students had the opportunity to investigate a fire truck and fire station and even use a fire hose. The Harrison Fire Department, one of their local partners, provided an engaging and educational experience. The students had a great time exploring and asking questions about fire safety. It was a wonderful trip, and they enjoyed meeting some of their local heroes at the Harrison Fire Department.

Area School MOCI 17 - 22-year-old Transition Classroom, 2023- 2024 school year reflection: Exploring new recipes
In the Area School MOCI 17-22-year-old Transition Classroom, students and staff discussed their favorite foods and new dishes they wanted to try. They decided to make Mexican Street Corn, a dish that none of the students and almost none of the staff had ever eaten or prepared. Each student researched recipes, and together they selected one. The corn turned out great, and everyone loved it. They were all proud of each other for being adventurous and trying something new. The students and staff encourage you and your family to try a new dish—it might become a new tradition!
