Continuous improvement teams from Beaverton, Bullock Creek, Clare, Coleman, Farwell, Harrison, Gladwin and CGRESD spent time on Tuesday defining the layers of academic and behavioral support that are provided to our students across the region. By having common definitions and coordinating efforts, we can help all students succeed! #OurStory #MICIP #MTSS

Students in Tammy Hall's new 6th-grade STEM class at Farwell Middle School recently participated in a challenge with the REMC 5 Sphero Indi robots, which are programmed using colored pads. Students first had to program a loop, then create an arch, and program Indi to go through the arch multiple times. Students succeeded in various ways and had creative ways to solve the challenge. #CGRESD #ourstory #REMC5

Clare-Gladwin Area School is grateful for the generous donations provided by local Knights of Columbus councils through the proceeds of their annual Tootsie Roll sales. The Clare Knights of Columbus, represented by Grand Knight Bruce Wentworth; the Harrison Knights of Columbus, represented by Mike Dushan; and the Gladwin Knights of Columbus, represented by Scott Cody and Dave Poxon, presented checks to Area School Principal Beth Wood in support of students and programs at the Area School.
These contributions support students ages 6–26 with moderate cognitive disabilities by helping provide communication tools, sensory supports, classroom materials, playground equipment, and meaningful learning experiences.
Clare-Gladwin RESD and the Clare-Gladwin Area School extend their sincere thanks to the Knights of Columbus for their continued generosity and commitment to students and families across our community. #areaschool #CGRESD #ourstory

The Area School MOCI class, comprised of 15-21-year-old students, started two new work sites. Office mail delivery for the CGRESD and working with "The Venue at 501" in Clare. Students practice their independence and leadership skills by picking up and delivering mail and other deliveries within the Area School and Business Office. When at the Venue, students work on various projects such as decorating, setting up, or cleaning up for events. Our students are loving these new experiences. Thank you to "The Venue at 501" and the CGRESD for partnering with us.

The Area School MOCI class, made up of students ages 15–21, prepared their annual apple cider with a new twist. They also invited a few students from the MOCI 9–15 class to join them. This year, the group added apple cider slushies to the experience, which were a big hit. Joe Trommater stopped by with the CGRESD CTE Agriculture cider press, giving students hands-on experience grinding and pressing apples. After sampling the cider, one student suggested turning it into slushies, and the class happily followed through. Everyone enjoyed both the fresh cider and the slushies.
Thank you to Walraven's Market for partnering with the program and generously donating the apples!

Happy New Year! The Area School MOCI class, made up of students ages 15–21, prepared their annual apple butter. Students reviewed the recipe, checked ingredients against the cupboard inventory, and created a shopping list. This year, apples were cooked with the skins on to preserve extra nutrients, and once blended, the skins were no longer noticeable. The class enjoyed fresh apple butter on toast, and each student took a container home to share with their family. Some was also frozen to enjoy in the new year, giving students the opportunity to learn how freezing food helps extend shelf life.
Thank you to Walraven's Market for generously donating the apples. We appreciate your continued partnership on this project!

The Area School MOCI class, comprised of 15-to 21-year-old students, enjoyed lunch at Applebee's in Mt. Pleasant. Each student was given a budget for lunch out. In class, we explored the online menu. Each student made personal choices, totaling their choices, including a tip, and stayed within their budget. If students' totals exceeded their budget, they went back and adjusted their choices until they were within it. When we arrived at Applebee's, students sat in small groups of their choice. We were modeling going out to eat with friends for a holiday lunch. Each student ordered their own meal and, when it was time, paid for it. As we finished paying, we discovered there was a $1.99 dessert. Everyone had enough money for dessert. Each student spoke with the wait staff and added dessert to their selection. We all had a great time with great conversation. It was a beautiful moment to observe and experience! Thank you to the Applebee's staff. They were amazing!

The Area School MOCI class, comprised of 15-21-year-old students, went shopping at Five Below for their families. Before the shopping trip, the students put together a shopping list and were given a budget. The students talked with their families and came up with interesting gift ideas. With our lists prepared, they went shopping. All the students had a great time and were very successful in shopping. It was great to see them really put thought into what they were buying. The Five Below staff were excellent and supportive! The students had then wrapped all their presents to share with their families for the holiday. From our class to you, we wish you a safe and happy holiday!

The Area School MOCI class, comprised of 15-to 21-year-old students, created the viral wreath sweaters to wear for Crazy/UGLY Sweater Day. The students designed their own sweaters by picking out the bow ribbon, colored bulbs, and garland. Each sweater reflects the student's own design. Together, each student worked with a staff member to assemble their shirt. We had a great time using our creative skills.

The Area School MOCI class, made up of students ages 15 to 21, invited the 21- to 26-year-old class to celebrate Thanksgiving together. The 15- to 21-year-old students prepared the dinner, while the 22- to 26-year-old students made the desserts. The meal included turkey, stuffing, brown sugar carrots, green bean casserole, gravy, fresh cranberry salad, broccoli salad, and deviled eggs.
