Always learning, always growing! This past Tuesday, our Clare Gladwin RESD Literacy Coaches wrapped up our last quarterly training with the MAISA Early Literacy Coaching Network at Saginaw Valley State University.
We had an incredible time diving into:
✅ Meaningful literacy assessments
✅ Engaging interactive read-alouds
✅ Effective coaching cycles
It was an inspiring day of strengthening relationships and collaborating with literacy leaders from across the state. We are excited to bring back fresh, research-supported coaching plans based on the Essential Instructional Practices to help our amazing educators meet the literacy needs of every child in every classroom every day. 🌟🍎

We want to congratulate Molly Humphrey, a Para-educator in the Area School MOCI class, which comprises 15-20-year-old students. Molly is a first-time published author. This spring, Molly received the first copies of "Here Mushroom Mushroom!" just in time for March reading month. Molly is a passionate mushroom hunter. Molly loves sharing her love of mushrooms and foraging with her grandchildren and the community. Molly read her book to our MOCI class and the students at Clare Elementary. Great job, Molly. We hope to see more books from you in the future!

The Area School MOCI class, comprising 15-to 20-year-old students, celebrated March reading month by kicking off a new project. Some of Ms. Dawn's students are now reading to Ms. Sharon's MOCI 6-10-year-old students on Wednesday afternoon. We are five weeks into the project, and the students are loving it. Listening looks different for each of us, and we love and embrace our individuality. We will continue this project and expand it in the future.

Jamie Winkler from the Clare Drone Club came to Farwell Middle School SPARKS to simulate a drone rescue with REMC 5 Director Joe Trommater and SPARKS Site Coordinator Brandi Robinson. Nick Winter and Duncan Gervin hid in the school forest and around the school building while 23 students split up into an air crew and a ground crew to search for them. Participants in 6th and 7th grade flew drones to search the area from the sky, while students in 4th and 5th grade searched using high-resolution cameras with telephoto lenses. Students quickly realized how hard it is to find someone with a drone, even when they are wearing a high-visibility vest! Participants took thousands of pictures, and were learning a lot about zooming and focusing a professional digital camera. #CGRESD #REMC5 @SPARKS #ourstory

I was honored to be invited by MDHHS and MDE to present on three key topics at the "2026 Michigan Medicaid School Services Program Conference" in Traverse City on April 14, 2026.
It was a privilege to collaborate with such esteemed colleagues:
- Kevin Bauer, Ph.D. (MDHHS) on "Plan of Care (POC) Essentials."
- Megan Klann (mdlogix) and Steve Polega (Genesee ISD) on "Medicaid 101: Foundations of School-Based Medicaid."
- Hollie Nash, LMSW (CMHCM) and Nick Winter, Whole Child Coordinator (CGRESD) on "Aligning Schools, Medicaid, and Community Mental Health for Student Support."
Collaborative efforts like these are what truly move the needle for student success.
A big thank you to all my co-presenters for their partnership in advancing support for Michigan students.
Sincerely,
Angella Peters

The Area School MOCI class, comprised of 15-20-year-old students, checks the growth of their seedlings! They are very excited to see the progress each week. Our students are looking forward to the annual plant sale. Thursday, May 14, 1:00-2:00 pm, the students will be outside the Area School selling their plants. The money raised will cover the cost of their gardens and community excursions next year. The plants will be sold for $1.00 per container of three or four plants. We will be selling various annual flowers, along with jalapeños, green peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, and tomatoes. We hope to see you there!
